A Powerful Tribute to Black Music
Fat Joe and Jadakiss lead a meaningful Black History Month conversation New York City was the setting for a special celebration of culture and legacy as Fat Joe and Jadakiss gathered fans and creatives for an inspiring Love Black Music talk at UMusic Shop NY. The event, held in partnership with Black Music Action Coalition, formed part of the store’s ongoing Black History Month programming focused on honoring the legacy and impact of Black music.
Moderated by BMAC founder Prophet Stiggers, the conversation explored the cultural influence of Black artists, the sounds that shaped hip hop, and the personal inspirations behind both artists’ careers. The discussion felt intimate yet powerful, reflecting the same authenticity that defines their chart topping podcast Joe and Jada, produced alongside Roc Nation and The Volume.
Exclusive merchandise and community impact
Guests attending the talk were able to shop exclusive Joe and Jada merchandise while also discovering Jadakiss’ coffee brand Kiss Cafe, adding a lifestyle element to the experience. A standout release was the limited Love Black Music tee, designed by Gavin Mathieu of Supervsn, available only at the New York location. Proceeds and checkout donations throughout the month support BMAC’s mission of advancing equity and opportunity within the music industry.
The activation also builds on the ongoing partnership between Universal Music Group and BMAC, which previously collaborated on the Sounds of the Future campaign during Black Music Month. Now joined by Supervsn, the initiative continues to spotlight Black creativity as a timeless force in American culture.
Celebrating hip hop heritage
Fans visiting the store can also explore the Def Jam Heritage Capsule collection honoring Def Jam Recordings. For more than four decades, the label has played a defining role in shaping hip hop’s global impact while amplifying voices rooted in community, lived experience, and cultural storytelling.
A cultural hub beyond retail
As Universal Music Group’s first permanent retail space in North America, UMusic Shop NY has quickly become more than a storefront. It serves as a cultural meeting point where music, fashion, and design intersect through collaborations, pop ups, and artist driven programming. Events like the Love Black Music talk highlight how the space continues to foster connection while celebrating the legacy and future of Black music. With additional activations planned throughout Black History Month and beyond, the store remains a vibrant destination for fans eager to engage with music culture in a deeper and more meaningful way.
