A Thrilling, Absurd, and Addictive Ride
Apple TV+’s Prime Target is an exhilarating blend of high-stakes espionage, elite academia, and mathematical obsession, all wrapped in a package as ridiculous as it is entertaining. Starring Leo Woodall as Edward Brooks, a Cambridge postgrad with a mind sharper than any supercomputer, the series leans into its own absurdity with style, confidence, and just the right amount of self-seriousness.
Brooks isn’t just any mathematician—he’s the mathematician,
relentlessly pursuing a breakthrough in prime numbers that could change the digital world forever. Naturally, shadowy forces take notice. When his mentor, Professor Mallinder (David Morrissey), mysteriously dies after setting fire to Brooks’ research, it sets off a chain reaction of cryptic messages, international intrigue, and underground secrets stretching from Cambridge to Iraq.
The plot twists pile up fast
There’s NSA surveillance, missing research records, and an ancient library that may hold the key to unlocking it all. Meanwhile, Quintessa Swindell’s Taylah—a conflicted intelligence operative—starts questioning the real purpose of her mission. It’s all very Good Will Hunting meets The Bourne Identity, with shades of A Beautiful Mind and The Da Vinci Code thrown in for good measure.
Sure, Prime Target is completely over the top. The dialogue can be laughably on-the-nose, and the intellectual posturing is as subtle as a sledgehammer. But none of that matters when a show is this fun. It’s a confident, globe-trotting thrill ride that embraces its own lunacy, delivering pure escapism with every dramatic reveal.
Prime Target is streaming now on Apple TV+.
